Six States is most widely known for their high quality HEAVY DUTY
drivelines, but they also carry transfer case parts, 231/241/242 slip yoke
eliminator kits, and other driveline components. Tom Woods is a four
wheeler and he understands the needs of fourwheelers. His prices are
competitive and it is quite possible to order a shaft on Monday morning and
be installing it on Wednesday night. I replaced my stock front shaft with
a Six States HD unit when I bent the stock one. The Six States unit was
1/2 inch smaller in outside diameter, yet it was fully twice the weight of
the stock shaft, indicating a lot of quality steel was used in the shaft.
And it ran smoother than the stocker ever did. The shaft was made to order
of new heavy duty Spicer components and delivered to me in 3 days.
On a ride to Monteagle, I managed to come down off a rock ledge onto the
Six States shaft harder than I did when I bent the stock one (when I hit
really jumbled rocks, it takes me a little bit of driving to reacquaint
myself with the skill of picking the right line). As far as I can tell
from driving up to 55 MPH with the front hubs locked, the shaft is fine. I
did manage, however, to shred the boot covering the slip splines in the
process of getting off the rock. Six States replaced the boot at no cost
to me, well outside their stated warranty period.
Their web site has plenty of good info on drivelines and is a good resource
for helping to diagnose driveline troubles and failures.
