Renegade HomeGray Rock ORV Area Trail Ride

Member Sam Houston went to Gray Rock ORV Area on Jan 30, 2003 and sent these comments and picture.

These pictures are of one obstacle on the trail called "The Pit" (I think) that claimed two front axles and a lower control arm. This trail is short (less than 1/2 mile long), but a total blast. It was made by running a bulldozer between two fingers of mine tailings making a mini box canyon. It starts easy and gets tougher the further you go in. There are escape routes at each point where the difficulty steps up a level and those who do not wish to continue can escape, then watch the carnage from above. The trail has a lot of short steep climbs and descents that get your attention. As you crest one climb, you have to look forward as you start the descent since that will be the only look you get at the next hill / obstacle before you're on it. It's like a roller coster for Jeeps. It is one of the most fun trails I've been on ... ever.

The rock in the pictures is quite large and those of us with vertically challenged Jeeps have to take a very off camber line around (the picture's of Gary in his red CJ7 show this). Those that are taller and/or have better skid plating take the other route shown by the blue CJ5.
