Renegade HomeSouthern 4WD Association Work Weekend

Members of the Renegade 4WD Club went to the Upper Tellico OHV Area on September 6, 1997 for a work weekend to maintain the trails.

The Southern Four Wheel Drive Association (SFWDA) held the work weekend on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday September 5-7, 1997 in the Upper Tellico OHV Area in Nantahala National Forest. Total volunteer attendance at the work weekend was about 44 people, all of them from the member clubs of SFWDA. Additionally, there were several rangers from the Tusquitee Ranger Station in Murphy, NC in attendance to coordinate the efforts.

SouthernThe pictures show the new facilities at the main entrance near Murphy, NC. The entrance station now includes a new bulletin board and roof with concrete plateau, and fee box surrounded by fence. The parking lot has been hardened and greatly enlarged to hold about 50 trucks. There is also an ATV unloading wall for pickup trucks. All these pictures were taken on Saturday, September 6 as we worked to install many of these facilities. They are shown below in chronological order.

During the same weekend, other volunteer crews worked on several of the trails in the OHV area, maintaining trails by building water bars and clearing silt traps.
